Iowa Transportation Coordination Council conference set for Nov.1

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa Transportation Coordination Council (ITCC) is sponsoring a statewide conference on Mobility Action Planning Nov. 1 beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Des Moines Marriott, 700 Grand Avenue . This meeting is the first of its kind in the state, and is intended to bring the various stakeholders in human service transportation together to build partnerships to better serve Iowans needing transportation services.

Lt. Governor Sally J. Pederson will kick-off the conference which examines the benefits of supporting coordinated transportation services in the form of economic development, reduced congestion, more livable communities and cleaner air. A highlight of the conference will be the unveiling of what was learned at the 15 local area mobility action planning (MAP) workshops held throughout the state earlier this year.

Advocacy, best practices, creative tools for mobility management, and cutting-edge technologies are just a few of the topics that will be covered. “This forum should provide a great opportunity for diverse stakeholders to work together in improving transportation services,” said Michelle McEnany, ITCC chairwoman and Director of DOT's Office of Public Transit.

Having transportation options is vital in allowing a person to choose where they want to live, work, and play. State government is committed to working with other state agencies through the Iowa Transportation Coordination Council and local levels of government to find greater levels of efficiency. Iowa DOT Director, Nancy Richardson, will reaffirm the commitment at the state level through her closing remarks.

People who have a responsibility for working with clients or members of the public to access services and want to play a role in making a difference in the quality of life, mobility, freedom, and independence of Iowans can find information on how to register to attend the conference at http://www.iatransit.com/regulations/map_workshop.asp.

The Iowa Transportation Coordination Council is made up of members from the Iowa departments of Education, Elder Affairs, Human Rights, Human Services, Public Health, Transportation, Veterans Affairs, and Workforce Development, plus the Iowa League of Cities, Iowa State Association of Counties, Iowa Association of School Boards, and the Governor's Developmental Disabilities Council.
